So, 1st week finished! It has been a bit of a whirlwind, with so many meetings and so much stuff happening. The first three days were almost nothing but back-to-back meetings. The meetings were usually just me & Takehito plus a manager, or even just a one-on-one. We met some very senior people but the atmosphere was always relatively casual. I got the strong impression of a company with a quite open, humanistic culture, so you don't just feel like a tiny part in a machine. In other words, it's a nice place and people are friendly!
I met some current and ex graduate trainees too. They are nice too :-)
Myself, I have been put on a 6-month rotation in back-office server admin, in Atago Green Hills (a big tower very near Roppongi Hills, and owned by the same company ). Most of you will be in Marunouchi I imagine, but I'm sure we will still have plenty of opportunities to meet.
As for the state of the company, well I did hear some very encouraging things about RBS's commitment to GBM's Tokyo branch, and the safety of our jobs as grads. Time will tell but I do feel relieved.
Any questions, please shoot!

Hearing that you think it's a nice place makes me feel relieved myself :)
ReplyDeleteYou do sound like you've been busy! Do you like working in Roppongi?
I'll be seeing you all soon I hope!
I have been busy. Right now my only real task is to study, but they expect me to do it a lot. It's like going back to school!
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty nice here, yes. At the top floor of this building there's a restaurant which is famous partly because of the great view of the city. And we're virtually next door to Tokyo Tower.
On the other hand, most people seem to agree that Marunouchi's more convenient in terms of easy access by train from most places, and has more places to eat (so many!), so you've got it lucky too.
I saw in an email, it looks like you're supposed to arrive on March 23?
And I heard you'll be working for Donald Walker - should be fun, I think.
